Panorama Photographs of Skye, Harris and the Hebrides

This portfolio contains a selection of my panorama photographs. Like most photographers in the digital age, most of these, although not all, are classic ‘stitched’ panoramas rather than being created with a classic panorama camera such as the Linhof Technorama 617. By this I mean that a series of photographs of a landscape are taken with the camera on a tripod, usually on portrait mode with a manual setting, and with enough overlap between the individual photographs to ensure the post production process will be able to create the desired panorama. The size of the panorama and the aspect ratio using this technique will be determined by the number of photographs in the sequence and how much of the landscape the photographer tries to capture.

A slight slip in one of the constituent photos, such as a judder through the tripod or a wrong exposure, can ruin the whole process and often this is not spotted until post-production when it cannot be rectified. However, one of the appealing aspects of the new range of medium format digital cameras is that they can allow the complete photograph to be taken in camera in a similar way to the traditional panoramic cameras such as the Linhof. This is referred to as a Cinematic panorama and which my Fuji GFX100S excels in taking.

All of our canvas prints are available on photo rag paper and canvas in various sizes. For those of you have visited our An t-Eilean Gallery in Skye over the years you will be aware that we produce some of our panoramas in large canvas format, sizes such as our very popular 54x14” size which is our ’Standard’ panorama size with a ratio of 3.8. We also have introduced a ‘Cinematic’ panorama which has a ratio of 2.7 and our ‘Other’ range which includes other ratios including a 1.8 ratio. Please get in touch if you are in any doubt about the size and availability of our panoramas.
